Volunteer With Us

We are always open to applications from new volunteers. We encourage applicants to read this page thoroughly.

We believe that volunteering is a powerful way to create positive change in the lives of incarcerated individuals and in our community as a whole.

We support a variety of volunteering opportunities to suit your interests, skills, and availability.

No matter how you choose to volunteer with us, you'll be contributing to a cause that promotes rehabilitation, healing, and transformation. Your dedication and support will help us continue to provide yoga and meditation as tools for personal growth and positive change for those behind bars. Join our team of volunteers today and be a part of this meaningful journey towards a more compassionate and rehabilitative justice system.

Ways You Can Help

  • If you have experience with yoga or meditation and a passion for sharing these practices, you can join our team as a volunteer instructor. You'll have the opportunity to bring peace and mindfulness to those who need it most.

We recommend you have at least a 200 hr TT certificate and 2 years teaching full time in the community before you enter a prison setting. However if you do not have this but you have similar work experience ie; social work or therapeautic client work then you may already have the skills and fortitude required. We value life experience highly. If you have overcome drug or alcohol addiction or have had close encounters this is of importance to us. It comes down to being able to RELATE to and CONNECT with the people.

You need to be trauma aware/trained or be willing to undergo this training (we may be able to support this) and you need to be familiar with Te Ao Maori and some level of Te Reo.

If this sparks something in your heart and you don’t know why, or if it just makes total sense….talk to us!

  • We have around 200 prisoners enrolled in a 6 module Yoga Correspondence Course. They write to us about their experience, answer questions and we write back. If you are a trained yoga teacher who wants to give back but does not want to go inside a prison, this is another way you can help.

  • Our programs depend on financial support, and fundraising is a critical part of sustaining our mission. As a fundraising volunteer, you can help us organize events, campaigns, and initiatives to raise funds for our programs.

Koha yoga classes, kirtans or other events can be done regularly to bring in bread and butter untagged funds for us to continue to support our vision of providing free yoga to all incacerated people and their friends and whanau.

  • If you're tech-savvy and enjoy connecting with people online, you can assist us in managing our social media presence. Your efforts will help spread the word about our work, attract supporters, and engage with our online community.

  • Visual storytelling is a powerful tool for raising awareness about our cause. If you have skills in photography or videography, you can capture the essence of our programs and events, creating compelling content that showcases the impact of our work.
